摘要: We show that Eastern Orthodox believers are less happy compared to those of Catholic and Protestant faith using data covering more than 100 countries around the world. Consistent with happiness results, we also find relative Catholics, Protestants non-believers, religion have social capital prefer old ideas safe jobs. In addition, Orthodoxy is associated left-leaning political preferences stronger support for government involvement in economy. Compared non-believers adherents, Catholics likely agree ownership a good thing, getting rich can only happen at expense others. These differences life satisfaction other attitudes values persisted despite fact communist elites sought eradicate church-going Europe, since communists maintained many aspects theology which were useful advancement doctrine. The findings consistent Berdyaev's (1933, 1937) hypothesis communism as successor Orthodoxy.
