High-speed algorithm for renewable energy based microgrid fault detection and protective coordination

摘要: The microgrid concept was proposed as a way to facilitate the integration of distributed renewable energy resources. However, due use resources (DERs) microgrids face new protection challenges that need resolved. One those is traditional methods, such overcurrent protection, cannot be used mainly because low fault currents, bi-directionality power flow, and IEEE 1547 voltage ride-through requirements at point common coupling (PCC). Therefore, current magnitudes protective indicators they may cause breaker misoperation or longer trip times resulting in clear fault. Additionally, knowledge location necessary element properly protect avoid blinding nuisance tripping. Change phase difference between an affective indicator manifests on short circuit islanded with inverter-based DERs. This paper explores uses it foundation propose novel high-speed detection direction method. A coordination algorithm also proposed. performance solution demonstrated PSCAD/EMTDC simulation environment.
