摘要: Objective: To determine if moderate to severe dementia has an effect on the oral health of individuals resident in nursing homes. Background: A significant proportion elderly population lives homes and suffers from varying degrees dementia. Dementia might affect individual's ability implement care. Previous work this area focused with mild living community setting. Material methods: Two matched cohorts subjects four Cheshire were recruited (n = 135). One cohort's deemed have no or dementia, whereas other Oral parameters scored, including Decayed, Missing, Filled Teeth (DMFT) scoring, dental deposit denture assessment noting any pathology. Results: There was a statistically difference relative level between two (p < 0.01, Student's t-test). The DMFT scores similar for both groups. mean number (±SD) decayed missing teeth no/mild group 1.11 (±3.42) 28.22 (±6.64), whilst that moderate/severe cohort 0.80 (±1.87) 27.28 (±7.73), respectively.
