摘要: Weissella spp. are non-spore forming, catalase-negative, gram-positive coccobacilli. They often misidentified by traditional and commercial phenotypic identification methods as Lactobacillus or Lactobacillus-like organisms. were previously grouped along with spp., Leuconostoc spp, Pediococcus Utilization of more sensitive like DNA sequencing Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) has facilitated a unique genus. Nineteen species have been identified to date. W. confusa, cibaria, viridescens the only isolated from humans. The true prevalence continues be probably underestimated. strains wide range habitats including raw milk, feces, fermented cereals, vegetables. Weisella is believed rare cause usually nonfatal infections in humans, considered contaminant. However recent years, implicated bacteremia, abscesses, prosthetic joint infections, infective endocarditis. Alterations gut flora surgery chemotherapy facilitate translocation due disruption mucosal barrier, predisposing host infection this organism. Therefore, early consideraton pathogenic role bacteria choice alternate therapy important assure better outcomes.
