摘要: Objective To evaluate ratios of serum triglycerides and cholesterol levels which may indicate postprandial lipid handling to assess their role as prospective markers dyslipidaemia in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Study design Comparative, observational study. Place duration study Bismillah Taqee Hospital, Karachi from July 2002 till December 2003. Patients methods The comprised 160 subjects, including 83 known diabetics (45 males, 38 females) 77 age-matched controls 32 females). Fasting blood samples were analysed for total cholesterol, using automated chemistry analyzer. HDL-C was determined by precipitation method LDL-C VLDL-C estimated Friedewalds formula. LDL/HDL ratio TG/HDL also calculated. mean values male female compared with that the non-diabetics respectively tested significance paired t-test. Results Serum VLDL raised both diabetics. No significant differences observed LDL, HDL ratio. value higher than (p=0.39). A statistically difference found (p Conclusion In this study, showed marked hypertriglyceridaemia predisposes development coronary heart disease and, therefore, evaluation TG:HDL provide a good tool monitor manage abnormalities
