Rain impacts on CO2 exchange in the western equatorial Pacific Ocean

摘要: [1] The ocean plays a major role in the global carbon cycle through atmosphere-ocean partitioning of atmospheric dioxide. Rain alters physics and chemistry at surface to increase amount CO2 taken up by ocean. This paper presents results preliminary study wherein rain measurements western equatorial Pacific are used determine enhanced transfer, chemical dilution deposition effects on air-sea exchange. Including these processes, flux is modified from an source +0.019 mol m−2 yr−1 sink −0.078 yr−1. new understanding changes ocean's budget, particularly regions with low winds high precipitation.
