BAROQUE: a browser for relational databases

摘要: The standard, most efficient method to retrieve information from databases can be described as systematic retrieval: needs of the user are in a formal query, and database management system retrieves data promptly. There several situations, however, which retrieval is difficult or even impossible. In such situations exploratory search (browsing) helpful alternative. This paper describes new interface, called BAROQUE, that implements searches relational databases. BAROQUE requires few skills its users. It does not assume knowledge principles model familiarity with organization particular being accessed. especially when targets vague cannot specified satisfactorily. establishes view resembles semantic network, provides intuitive functions for scanning it. network integrates both schema data, supports access by value. implemented on top any basic but modified take advantage additional capabilities enhancements often present systems.
