摘要: Background Non-invasive physical treatments are often used to treat common types of chronic/recurrent headache. Objectives To quantify and compare the magnitude short- long-term effects non-invasive for headaches. Search methods We searched following databases from their inception November 2002: MEDLINE, EMBASE, BIOSIS, CINAHL, Science Citation Index, Dissertation Abstracts, CENTRAL, Specialised Register Cochrane Pain, Palliative Care Supportive review group. Selected complementary medicine reference systems were as well. We also performed citation tracking hand searching potentially relevant journals. Selection criteria We included randomized quasi-randomized controlled trials comparing headaches any type control. Data collection analysis Two independent reviewers abstracted trial information scored methodological quality. Outcomes data standardized into percentage point effect size scores wherever possible. The strength evidence effectiveness was assessed using pre-specified rules. Main results Twenty-two studies with a total 2628 patients (age 12 78 years) met inclusion criteria. Five headache studied: migraine, tension-type, cervicogenic, mix migraine post-traumatic headache. Ten had quality 50 or more (out possible 100 points), but many limitations identified. unable pool because study heterogeneity. For prophylactic treatment headache, there is that spinal manipulation may be an effective option short-term similar commonly used, drug (amitriptyline). Other options weaker pulsating electromagnetic fields combination transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation [TENS] neurotransmitter modulation. For chronic tension-type amitriptyline than during treatment. However, superior in short term after cessation both treatments. therapeutic touch; cranial electrotherapy; TENS modulation; regimen auto-massage, TENS, stretching. For episodic adding massage not effective. For cervicogenic neck exercise (low-intensity endurance training) long when compared no There placebo manipulation, mobilization. There mobilization cold packs headache. Authors' conclusions A few headaches. Based on results, these appear associated little risk serious adverse effects. clinical cost-effectiveness require further research scientifically rigorous methods. heterogeneity this means results additional high-quality future could easily change conclusions our review.
