摘要: Molecular medicine enhances the clinician’s ability to accurately diagnose and treat disease, many technological advances in diverse fields have made translation of molecular clinic possible. Nuclear encompasses 2 technologies—single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) positron (PET)—that driven field forward. SPECT PET, inherently imaging techniques, been at forefront for several decades. These modalities exploit radioactive decay nuclides with specific properties that make them useful vivo imaging. As recently as mid-1990s, PET were mostly restricted use clinical setting because their relatively coarse spatial resolution limited usefulness studying animal (especially rodent) models human disease. About a decade ago, groups began making significant strides improving point small-animal technique was study rodent disease models. The these techniques progressed result improvements instrumentation data reconstruction software. Here, we review impact and, specifically, nuclear on understanding biological basis expectation will be translated medicine.
