摘要: Background: Human gastric mucosa contains three alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) isozymes (classes I, III, and IV). Various factors such as Helicobacter pylori infection, sex, age, the part of stomach involved have been suggested to affect activities, although these views are controversial. In this study, unsettled issues were reexamined. Methods: Activities class I IV ADHs evaluated in cytosolic fraction human samples by reduction their preferred substrates, namely acetaldehyde m-nitrobenzaldehyde, activities III oxidation its substrate, formaldehyde. Then, effects examined. Results: Class ADH 17.5 ± 8.4, 4.2 2.5, 8.9 3.9 nmol nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide per minute milligram protein, respectively, for entire population. infection significantly reduced but did not activity III. without severe gastritis, sex or activities. same series, decreased with age (p = 0.006), whereas no correlation was found between ADHs. The level higher upper body than lower regions, heterogeneity observed ADH. Conclusions: that careful interpretation significance is necessary.
