A study guided by the health belief model of the predictors of breast cancer screening of women ages 40 and older

摘要: In late 1987, a total of 852 Rhode Island women ages 40 and older were interviewed by telephone (78 percent response rate) to measure their use breast cancer screening investigate potential predictors use. Predictors included the women's socioeconomic status, medical care, provider's reported recommendations for screening, health beliefs about mammography. The Health Belief Model guided construction interview questions data analysis. Logistic regression was used identify leading independent according contemporary recommendations: reporting that provider had ever recommended mammogram (odds ratio [OR] = 18.77), having received gynecological care in previous year (OR 4.92), regular source 2.63), diagnostic 2.32), perceiving mammography as safe enough have annually 1.93). findings suggest programs intended increase should include "inreach" "outreach" elements; inreach patients with established patient-provider relationships, assuring physicians recommend all eligible patients, outreach women, helping them overcome barriers effective primary promoting mammography, emphasizing its effectiveness safety. also socioeconomically disadvantaged who are less likely be screened than other become special targets interventions.
