摘要: Photoemission experiments on 3d transition metals are reviewed. The emphasis is understanding the results of experiments, not experimental details and methods. Extensive use made simple models. Much review pertains to resonances associated with autoionization 3p53dn+1 →3p63dn−1 +e their implications for electronic structure. Nonresonant ultraviolet x‐ray photoemission spectroscopies also discussed. photoabsorption transition‐metal atoms discussed first. Results Mn described at length establish validity mechanism. from atomic spectroscopy used interpret solids. role atomiclike excitations in solids examined. Compounds analyzed terms ligand‐field theory, which shown be inadequate. Newer theories involving configuration interaction agree better experiment. Various mechanisms excitation satellites presented. In metallic state, effects similar those observed compounds occur. existence two‐bound‐hole final states demonstrated. Their importance Auger spectroscopy, valence‐ core‐emission satellites, resonant closely related electron correlations band structure described.
