The efficacy of brief group counseling in HIV risk reduction among homosexual Asian and Pacific Islander men

摘要: Objectives : The incidence of AIDS is increasing at a higher rate among homosexual Asian and Pacific Islanders (API) than white men in the United States. number API engaging unsafe sex an alarming rate. Subjects methods We developed evaluated culturally appropriate brief group counseling with 329 self-identified recruited San Francisco between 1992 1994. Participants were randomized into single, 3-h skills training or wait-list control group. intervention consisted four components (1) development positive self-identity social support, (2) safer education, (3) eroticizing sex, (4) negotiating sex. Data collected baseline 3 months after intervention. Results Significant reductions sexual partners observed all treatment subjects, regardless ethnicity (P=0.003). Treatment decreased reported 3-month follow-up by 46% [95% confidence interval (Cl), 28-77]. Chinese Filipino further benefited from subjects these two ethnic groups reduced unprotected anal intercourse more half when compared to their counterparts (odds ratio=0.41 ; 95% Cl, 0.19-0.89 P=0.024). Conclusions demonstrated efficacy reducing API. Cities significant populations should adopt tailored as part prevention strategies for men.
