摘要: Green-lipped mussels (Perna canaliculus) formed extensive reefs on soft sediments in sheltered embayments around northern New Zealand until overfishing and/or increased sediment input caused their virtual disappearance by 1980. To determine the role of mussel as habitat for other animals, we located remnant soft-sediment five locations and compared density, biomass, productivity composition mobile macroinvertebrate communities, density small fishes associated with mussels, fauna surrounding sediments. The had a distinct assemblage macroinvertebrates, which 3.5 times 3.4 biomass areas. was 13.7 higher than These results show that support an abundant productive fauna, highlighting probable large loss historical decline t...
