摘要: A new type of multiphase catalyst is developed for transport-controlled, volatile-reactant-limited reactions: the tubular-supported ceramic membrane. microporous, catalytically-impregnated γ-Al2O3 film (permeable membrane) coats inside wall a hollow, macroporous α-Al2O3 tube. The gas containing volatile reactant flows through tube core, and liquid nonvolatile dissolved reactants on shell side. Reaction occurs in film. Results using hydrogenation α-methylstyrene to cumene Pd/Al2O3 reveal that tubular compares favorably conventional designs. results demonstrate main benefit more efficient supply reactant. Apparent activation energy analyses temperatures below 40° C, rate kinetically-controlled utilization nearly complete. reduction above 45°C indicates onset transport limitations or heat effects. comparison between fully-wetted pellet reveals increases by up factor 20.
