摘要: Objectives To evaluate the prevalence of level IIb lymph node (LN) metastasis and to identify potential clinical risk factors when metastatic diseases are present in patients with clinically node-negative (N0) node-positive (N+) necks hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HPSCC). This will provide a basis for determining whether this region can be excluded elective or therapeutic neck dissection HPSCC. Design Prospective analysis case series. Setting University hospital. Patients Fifty HPSCC who underwent surgical treatment primary lesion simultaneous from January 1998 February 2004. Main Outcome Measures The incidences LN regional recurrence according presence absence pathologic involvement IIb. Results A total 93 dissections were analyzed study. Of these dissections, 59 (63%) 34 (37%) therapeutic. Three percent (2 59) all N0 32% (11 34) N+ had metastases. Level nodal metastases significantly more prevalent ( P = .007) than other positive LNs = .01) LNs. 35 LNs, rate was higher cases (33% [4 12]) without (4% [1 23]; = .04). Conclusions pads may preserved during area should removed necks.
