摘要: User-directed routing technologies - that is, systems in which users choose their own routes through a communications network have generated considerable interest recent years. Despite numerous theoretical advantages, ISPs so far resisted these technologies, even as learned to capture some power overlay networks. This study responds this disconnect between theory and practice by asking how user-directed would affect three prominent objectives of operators: maintaining control over the network, earning profits, keeping inner details secret. Contrary modern theme proposals, we argue is not fundamentally incompatible with ISP-control, long flexible pricing system place. Instead under surprisingly general assumptions an ISP can use prices on open market induce any feasible traffic pattern. Moreover, market-based approach maximizes welfare for given In general, our model does guarantee whether will earn more money routing. Nevertheless, provide intuition suggest why typical may expect higher profits. Finally, giving conflicts ISP's desire secrecy. At same time, widespread adoption routing, perhaps promoted regulation, facilitate transparent civil industry, benefit many ISPs.
