摘要: Abstract Access to shared and fully-automated or ‘autonomous’ vehicles (SAVs) is coming, expected be popular cost-effective, especially for city dwellers. This chapter synthesizes summarizes research on SAVs, including dynamic ride-sharing (en route), range-constrained electric SAV (SAEV) operations, fleet costs, variable road pricing in a world of AVs, where vehicle-miles traveled (VMT) rise congestion worsens. Researchers consistently find that single with long range fast refueling can replace six more household countries high vehicle ownership, even when serving long-distance trips. That number falls bit SAVs are constrained and/or have recharging times. Zero-occupancy VMT, called empty will problem urban-network levels if travelers do not share rides strangers (increasing average occupancy) tolls included. Expected costs under USD $0.75 per revenue-mile, assuming the self-driving technology adds $25,000 less each conventional vehicle. SAEVs bring some emission savings vehicle-to-grid consumption managed well. Fleet sizing, fare economics regional policies key managing this future.
