Direct and indirect costs of osteoarthritis in Singapore: a comparative study among multiethnic Asian patients with osteoarthritis.

摘要: OBJECTIVE: To estimate and compare the direct indirect costs of osteoarthritis (OA) in multiethnic Asian patients with OA Singapore. METHODS: The study was a retrospective cross-sectional design. Patients were stratified according to ethnicity presence or absence joint surgery. Direct estimated from both societal patient perspective using Singapore General Hospital database; human capital approach. All expressed as mean per annum 2003 dollars. RESULTS: A total 1179 (83.6% Chinese, 7.2% Malay, 3.5% Indian, 5.7% others) included estimating costs, which 513 (43.5%) had knee replacement (TKR) 92 (7.8%) hip (THR), while 105 (71.4% 14.3% Indian) costs. ranged 1460 dollars 7477 for 1362 dollars-7211 Malays, 1688 dollars-6226 Indians, 1437 dollars-12,140 other ethnic patients; society 3351 15,799 2939 dollars-15,436 3150 dollars-10,990 2597 dollars-17,879 patients. In contrast, 1215 3834 1138 dollars-6116 1371 dollars-5292 Indians. However, most variations not statistically significant. CONCLUSION: economic burden increased by 3-fold more TKR/THR compared those without. differences health resources consumed apparent when disease progressed.
