摘要: Abstract Field, geochemical and structural evidence collectively indicate that the Upper Pro-terozoic to Lower Palaeozoic (Pan-African) continental crust of Arabian—Nubian Shield evolved through a period about 700 Ma (1200–500 Ma) by progressive craton-ization (continentalization) numerous intra-oceanic island arcs. An episodic continuum magmatic, metamorphic sedimentary processes, similar those operating above present-day oceanic then subduction zones, is envisaged. Structural deformation ophiolite obduction occurred primarily during phases arc collision at c. 1000, 800 600 Ma. Although presented relates Shield, cratonized island-arc model seems be applicable in Africa as far south Ethiopia east across northern West African Archaean craton. If this case 5 × 108 km3 new was produced Proterozoic plate-tectonic processes directly analagous destructive plate margins.
