摘要: Autoimmune uveitis is a potentially blinding disease in humans. Use of animal models to study basic mechanisms revealed that thymic expression retinal antigens eliminates most autoreactive lymphocytes through central tolerance and positively selects natural regulatory T cells. However, because the healthy eye are relatively sequestered from immune system, peripheral inefficient residual persist can be activated by accidental encounter with self- or cross-reactive antigen. In presence innate danger signals, they mature into Th1 Th17 effector cells, which, upon reaching recognition specific antigen, orchestrate destructive inflammation recruiting inflammatory leukocytes circulation. Regulatory T cells also induced as part process ultimately control permit healing take place.
