摘要: This essay considers trends in recent scholarship on the medieval and early modern Mediterranean, assessing how individual monographs essays relate to field as a whole. Recent works with an Italian focus have engaged major themes of Mediterranean encounter: merchant culture commercial exchange, crusade, pilgrimage, shared sacred geographies. tendency is particularly prominent “high culture” fields — art architectural history, literary intellectual humanism, political diplomatic endeavors that traditionally been framed context Renaissance.
