摘要: Properdin, a serum glycoprotein, is an important component of innate immunity, the only known positive regulator complement, acting as initiation point for alternative pathway activation. As X-linked protein, we hypothesized that properdin may play modulatory role in pathogenesis viral wheeze children, which tends to be more common and severe boys. We aimed determine levels community-based paediatric sample, assess whether were associated with childhood phenotypes atopy. studied 137 school-children aged 8-12 yrs, nested sample from cohort study. Properdin was measured by commercial enzyme-linked immunoabsorbant assay. assessed questionnaire, validated it nurse-led interview performed skin prick tests methacholine challenge all children. Forty children (29%) reported current wheeze. Serum ranged between 18 40 microg/ml. not age, gender, atopy, bronchial responsiveness, (neither nor multiple-trigger phenotype) or severity wheeze, but slightly lower south Asian (median 21.8 microg/ml) compared white (23.3 microg/ml; p = 0.006). Our data make unlikely deficiency healthy are major risk factor
