A systematic literature review of undergraduate clinical placements in underserved areas.

摘要: Context The delivery of undergraduate clinical education in underserved areas is increasing various contexts across the world response to local workforce needs. A collective understanding impact these placements lacking. Previous reviews have often taken a positivist approach by only looking at outcome measures. This review addresses question: What are strengths and weaknesses for medical students supervisors community areas? Methods A systematic literature was carried out database searching, citation pearl growing, reference list checking use own literature. The databases included MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Web Science ERIC. search terms used were combinations variations four key concepts exploring general practitioner (GP) primary care, students, location characteristics. papers analysed using textual narrative synthesis. Findings The initial identified 4923 results. After removal duplicates screening titles abstracts, 185 met inclusion criteria. These full articles obtained assessed their relevance research question; 54 then final review. Four main categories identified: student performance, perceptions, career pathways supervisor experiences. Conclusions This reflects emergent qualitative data as well quantitative assess initiatives. Underserved area produced many beneficial implications community. There growing amount evidence regarding rural, areas, but little relation inner city, deprived none UK.
