Physical Exercise Prevents Stress-Induced Activation of Granule Neurons and Enhances Local Inhibitory Mechanisms in the Dentate Gyrus

摘要: Physical exercise is known to reduce anxiety. The ventral hippocampus has been linked anxiety regulation but the effects of running on this subregion have incompletely explored. Here, we investigated cold water stress sedentary and runner mice found that while increases expression protein products immediate early genes c-fos arc in new mature granule neurons mice, it no such effect runners. We further showed enhances local inhibitory mechanisms hippocampus, including stress-induced activation hippocampal interneurons, vesicular GABA transporter (vGAT), extracellular release during swim stress. Finally, blocking GABAA receptors not dorsal with antagonist bicuculline, reverses anxiolytic running. Together, these results suggest improves by engaging hippocampus.
