Transthoracic needle biopsy in neoplastic and nonneoplastic pathology: Experience in a general hospital

摘要: Transthoracic needle biopsy (TNB) was performed in 344 cases of intrathoracic pathology. In 60 them, the material obtained inadequate. remaining 284, possibilities TNB to identify malignant cells were evaluated. Of 202 had neoplastic lesions and 82 nonneoplastic processes. Among cases, found 188, (true positive), 14 results false negative. group processes, there 80 without negative), two diagnosed as malignant, (false positive). these 284 with cytologic diagnosis, global sensitivity 0.93, specificity 0.97; however, including all inadequate samples negatives, is lower--0.71. required some skill, use fine needles, collaboration an expert cytopathologist. important method which explore
