摘要: Objective Cytopathologic descriptions of thymoma are limited. This study was undertaken to elaborate on the cytomorphologic features along with clinicoradiologic findings this entity, special emphasis differential diagnosis. Study design Twenty cases were retrospectively studied. Material obtained by fine needle aspiration (FNA). Smears stained Diff-Quik and Papanicolaou stain, cell block sections hematoxylin eosin. Immunocytochemical (ICC) studies done in selected using cytokeratins, epithelial membrane antigen, carcinoembryonic placental alkaline phosphatase, neuron-specific enolase, chromogranin lymphocytic markers (CD3 UCHL-1). Results Fourteen thymomas from anterior mediastinum; remaining 6 invasive or metastatic lung (2), pleura liver (1) abdominal wall (1). The key diagnostic feature a biphasic population cells lymphocytes varying proportions. Medullary showed cohesive, spindled cells, whereas cortical subtypes displayed more epithelioid singly discohesive clusters. All subtype. ICC positive for cytokeratins antigen. Conclusion FNA, coupled information appropriate immunocytochemical studies, is highly accurate diagnosis primary thymomas.
