摘要: In the last several years, renewed interest in the study of bilingualism has led to the investigation of a very common language-contact phenomenon known as code-switching. At the same time, this same interest has once again led to the examination of the exact classification of code-switching within the definitions of the two processes known as interference and integration. The purpose of this paper is to recall previous discussions relating to this same problem, to review some recent attempts at establishing definitions of types of code-switching, and finally, to emphasize the difficulties surrounding the strict classification of code-switching given the varying interpretations of both interference and integration as well as new evidence concerning the very nature of language alternation.
