摘要: Douglas-fir growth in the coastal PNW is commonly limited by the supply of plant-available nitrogen (Chappell et al. 1991). This was one of the primary reasons for establishing the Regional Forest Nutrition Research Project (RFNRP) in 1969. In 1991, the RFNRP was incorporated into the SMC, and it was almost immediately noted that many of the original RFNRP sites were reaching or passing commercial maturity. The original Industry investment in those studies was enormous, but the utility of continuing measurements on the sites indefinitely was questioned as it diverted efforts away from other, potentially more productive work.A great deal of data is now available on the effects of that original application on he growth of trees, as normally, only the tree diameters and total heights were measured during the study.
