Polysemy and the subjective lexicon: Semantic relatedness and the salience of intraword senses

摘要: Subjective perceptions of the senses polysemous English words are collected in questionnaire studies and effects variability semantic distances among these examined an experiment. In first two studies, native speakers produce meanings for 175 words; from their responses, most frequently produced meaning each word is identified as its dominant sense. a second questionnaire, independent subjects rate relatedness between other generated study. Relatedness measures vary, raising possibility that vary terms salience different contexts. This confirmed experiment showing ratings influenced by interacting factors sentential context, extent senses, dominance status senses.
