Exploration of Male Attitudes on Partnerships and Sexuality with Female BRCA1/2 Mutation Carriers

摘要: Women with BRCA mutations are inundated decisions about managing cancer risks and childbearing considerations. Decisions become more complicated when women face disclosing their mutation risk-reduction options to a romantic partner. This study identifies the concerns perspectives of male partners regarding these unique decisions. Twenty-five participants completed an online survey posted support group message boards. Participants reported relationship changes intimacy levels (n = 9), attraction 2), communication 22) after disclosure. whose had not undergone prophylactic mastectomy 14) sexual relations 5), post-surgical appearance health/lifespan 9). did express attitude toward childbearing. While disclosure conversations surgical for many carriers in relationships, share concerns. Aspects may change, but continued partners. information can benefit female carriers, current or future partners, genetic counselors working this particular population.
