摘要: The recent deciphering of the protein composition synaptic vesicle membrane has led to unexpected identification a compartment electron-lucent microvesicles in neuroendocrine cells which resemble neuronal vesicles terms molecular structure and function. These are generally referred as synaptic-like (SLMVs) have been most intensively studied pancreatic β-cells, chromaffin adrenal medulla, pinealocytes pineal gland. This chapter focuses on present knowledge SLMVs now well-established constituents mammalian pinealocytes. I review results morphological, immunocytochemical, biochemical studies that were important for characterization this novel population secretory organ. emerging concept serve device intercellular communication within gland is outlined, unanswered questions such those pertaining physiological function regulation discussed.
