摘要: To acquire more insight into the results of treatment versus "natural" course glomus tumors, we studied clinical data 108 patients, in 58 whom disease was hereditary. During a period 32 years (1956 to 1988), 175 tumors were diagnosed: 52 jugulotympanic vagal body and 91 carotid tumors. The radical surgical disappointing for located at skull base, ie, nonradical 59% (n = 23) cases, but very good which 96% 68) excision achieved. Moreover, surgery level base dramatically increased morbidity, since it frequently induced cranial nerve palsy. follow-up (maximal observation time years, mean 13.5 years) none patients died residual or recurrent tumor developed distant metastases, irrespective mode outcome treatment. When these are combined with pedigree analysis, realistic approximation both hereditary nonfamilial can be made. raise question whether this natural behavior is really improved by intervention. We conclude that removal solitary should considered order prevent future morbidity. However, bilateral conservative monitored "wait see" policy sensible any proposal head neck paragangliomas.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
