摘要: There are a number of emerging surgical indications for deep brain stimulation. We have shown that modulation activity within motor, mood, and cognitive circuits has beneficial effects in patients with Parkinson's disease, treatment-resistant depression, perhaps Alzheimer's type dementia. review the rationale, safety, efficacy each these indications, focusing on disease mechanisms relevant data necessary to document therapeutic value case. The closes some thoughts possible future directions It is likely applications stimulation will continue expand as accumulating establish its safety profile other conditions.
