摘要: A maximum likelihood method to detect selection from phylogenies is reviewed. Models with k alleles and unequal rates of mutation between can be accommodated. The basis for the that unusually conserved sequences are an indication functional importance. This feature used infer presence purifying selection. illustrated search evidence acting on rRNA secondary structure. Sequence data 51 species examine conservation structures. These structures thought selectively important function molecules. Strong a specific structure implies nucleotide pairs do not contribute this will rare. frequency different nucleotides at each site in tabulated algorithm obtain estimate strength. map potential strength throughout molecule discussed.
