摘要: Purpose – To examine the role of formal qualifications in career development contemporary hotel general managers Scotland.Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire was used which provided a sound basis for comparing opinions, performance and paths both formally qualified unqualified managers.Findings Key findings identified that were an integral part development. They facilitated moves between companies allowed prospective to “fast‐track” management status. Formal considered particularly beneficial developing those functional managerial skills required succeed.Practical implications At this present time change within industry, existing move towards more business perspective manager may fact be influencing managers’ mid‐career.
