摘要: This paper considers the extent to which gender division of labor affects likelihood household formation. Using repeated cross sectional data covering highly-developed nations, we consider differential effects aggregate social norms regarding labor. Controlling for other factors that affect marriage market, our findings indicate more egalitarian are associated with an increase in probability forming a household. When additionally controlling individual attitudes, find that, ceteris paribus, women less likely form household, while men do so. pattern results is consistent economic models market where partners contract over future Moreover, given salience formation as proximate determinant fertility, potentially shed light onto process below replacement fertility and challenges it.
