Persistent diarrhea, strongly associated with HIV infection in Kinshasa, Zaire.

摘要: Ninety-eight (40%) of 243 acquired immune deficiency syndrome inpatients at Mama Yemo Hospital, Kinshasa, Zaire, presented with a history diarrhea for least 1 month. To determine the predictive value persistent human virus (HIV) infection, 128 consecutive patients presenting Hospital were tested presence HIV antibodies. One-hundred seven (84%) lasting month found to be seropositive. seropositive more often had generalized papular pruritic eruption (p = 0.02), genital herpes simplex infection 0.05), zoster 0.08), and cryptosporidia 0.006) than seronegative diarrhea. Bacterial enteric pathogens in 5 (7%) 76 none 14 whom stool cultures performed. Presently adults central Africa is strongly associated but pathophysiological mechanisms causing this remain unclear.
