Protégés’ and mentors’ reactions to participating in formal mentoring programs: A qualitative investigation

摘要: Mentors and proteges from two formal mentoring programs were interviewed about the benefits associated with program participation, problems encountered in program, recommendations for improvements. The most commonly reported pro- teges included learning, coaching, career planning, psychosocial support. frequently developing a personal relationship, gratification, enhanced managerial skills. Both groups identified range of including mentor-pro- tegemismatches, scheduling difficulties, geographic distance. Unique also identified, mentor neglect (by proteges), unmet expectations structural separation feelings inadequacy mentors). Finally, suggestions improvement such as clearer communication objectives, better matching, targeted participation gram monitoring. Findings are discussed terms what we currently know informal implications theory. Suggestions practice discussed.
