摘要: Abstract Scrapie is the transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) of sheep and goats, scrapie eradication in based part on strong genetic resistance to classical scrapie. Goats may serve as a reservoir, date there has been no experimental inoculation confirming goats. Two prion protein variants (amino acid substitutions S146 K222) goats have significantly underrepresented cases though present scrapie-exposed flocks, demonstrated low cell-free conversion efficiency disease form (PrPD). To test degree conferred live animals with consistent exposure, we performed first oral challenge singly heterozygous for either PRNP or K222. All N146-Q222 homozygotes became clinically positive by an average 24 months, but all K222 heterozygotes remain negative both rectal biopsy clinical signs at longer incubation times (P
