摘要: The return of the grey wolf Canis lupus lupus, after a temporary absence, to rural and forest-fringe areas has resulted in more encounters between humans protected wildlife when wolves prey on farmers' hunters' living private property. In locations where are considered problematic, permits can be issued for controlled hunting individual protect livestock companion animals prevent damage. I examine applications targeted removal problematic Sweden through lethal control, authorities' decisions regarding hunting. empirical basis paper is content analysis data concern three counties middle Sweden, with 2002–2010 as study period. analyse 1) applicants' stated reasons applying 2) rationales rejecting or approving these applications. My aim identify aspirations, desires, motives evident texts.In investigating decisions, applies anthropological perspectives ecosystem management, place landscape, decision-making, results illustrate underlying framing favouring removal. We encounter layered reflexive communication intentions beliefs goals interests that should guide state action manage demonstrating ‘transgressive’ ‘unnatural’ behaviour threatening local social cultural environment. Perceptions diverge how best understand natural landscape such understandings embodied wolves.
