Monoamine oxidase inhibition: Possible mechanism for cyproheptadine-induced alterations in insulin secretion

摘要: Summary Studies were carried out to determine the mechanism of cyproheptadine (CYPRO) inhibition glucose-stimulated insulin secretion in golden hamster. Following CYPRO injection, intact hamsters have an increase serum glucose concentration and secretion. Using homogenates isolated pancreatic islets liver from rabbits we found that is a competitive inhibitor monoamine oxidase (MAO). There significant correlation between inhibitory potency serotonin antagonists CYPRO, cinanserin (CINAN), methysergide (METHY) on vitro hamster pancreas MAO effect these compounds. The decreasing order as inhibitors is: > CINAN METHY. antihistaminic agents diphenhydramine chlorpheniramine also inhibit activity. Our studies suggest net different species may be results interaction its antiserotonin properties.
