Repellent activity of common spices against the rice weevil, Sitophilus zeamais Motsch (Coleoptera, Curculionidae)

摘要: Five essential oils and eight extracts of common spices were screened evaluated for repellent activity against adults the rice weevil, Sitophilus zeamais (Motsch.), using modified filter paper impregnation method. Both cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) gingers, Etlingera elatior, E. pyramidosphaera Zingiber officinale, showed strong S. zeamis at 20 mg/ml. Cinnamon methanol extract exhibited potent concentration 10 Extracts turmeric (Curcuma longa) black pepper (Piper nigrum) moderate or 50 However, lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) dry chili (Capsicum annuum) weak attractant activity. The findings from this research demonstrate possible use these as weevil in stored products.
