摘要: Pregnancy is traditionally viewed as a harmonious collaboration between mother and fetus. From this perspective, viviparity poses series of problems that maternal fetal genes work together to solve the many complications pregnancy are interpreted evidence malfunctioning an evolved system or failure natural selection achieve adaptive goal. This view fails recognize aspects genetic conflict lie at heart gestation. At least three interrelated sources can be identified: (i) expressed in fetus/placenta (parent-offspring conflict); (ii) maternally-derived paternally-derived within genome (genomic imprinting); (iii) themselves offspring rest (gestational drive).
