摘要: Expansion of agriculture is a principal driver biodiversity losses in the tropics, prompting suggestions that plantations should be made more hospitable to wildlife. Such "wildlife-friendly" practices contrast with alternative "land sparing" strategy, which promotes separation agricultural and conservation areas. Focusing on wildlife-friendly strategy retaining fragments forest within matrix, here we report abundance diversity birds oil palm plantations, fragments, contiguous forest. Abundances imperiled bird species were 60 times lower 200 than Forest also did not increase abundances adjacent palm, had richness forest, an avifaunal composition was similar Therefore, from perspective, any investment retention would better directed toward protection
