摘要: World history has known areas of relative isolation and high intensity cultural interaction. The Mediterranean Sea, the Silk Road or Straits Malacca can be cited as such crucial contact zones. Within these areas, centres sprung up that served interfaces between cultures societies. These “hubs” we would like to call them, emerged at various points throughout zones, rose prominence submerged into oblivion due a variety natural calamities political fortunes. This paper assesses rise fall trade knowledge hubs along from before colonialisation until today. Historical maritime religiosity today increasingly establish themselves educational hubs. leads us speak chain of—not pearls—but with Singapore hub in region shining brightest all, data suggest. We aim conceptually grasp this development by suggesting model least hypothesis about movement general.
