摘要: The prevailing view until very recently was that primary neuronal cilia, which were first described in electron microscopic studies of the central nervous system (CNS) approximately 50 years ago, likely vestigial. This due large part to their lost motility during course evolution. For decades, further investigation into these structures hampered by lack methods specifically label cilia and paucity information about growth function CNS. In this chapter, we review unexpected roles have shaping CNS particular generation maturation cells postnatal cerebral cortex. We discuss newly available research tools for detecting manipulating ciliogenesis. Focusing on mammalian cortex, chapter reviews patterns signaling profiles putative functions non-neuronal potential consequences abnormal ciliogenesis cell types.
