Parathyroidectomy, elevated depression scores, and suicidal ideation in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism: results of a prospective multicenter study.

摘要: Objective To assess anxiety and depression symptoms, suicidal ideation, health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in a large series consecutive patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) before after parathyroidectomy. Design This prospective multicenter study investigated preoperative postoperative depression, anxiety, HRQOL pHPT compared these variables control group nontoxic thyroid nodules. Patients The included 194 186 subjects. Main Outcome Measures Depression was evaluated the Hospital Anxiety Scale (HADS) Patient Health Questionnaire–9, which also assessed ideation. HADS. Health-related measured 36-Item Short Form survey. Results Parathyroidectomy achieved 98% cure rate. Preoperatively, severe (HADS score ≥11) seen 20% 9% group. Questionnaire–9 detected moderate to 17% 7% had higher HADS scores (mean, 7.7) than subjects (P  Conclusions Depression, decreased appear be related pHPT. Successful parathyroidectomy seems reduce psychopathologic symptoms improve this setting.
