摘要: Summary Six healthy foals underwent instrumentation for measurement of the cardiopulmonary effects sedation with 1.1 mg/kg bodyweight xylazine hydrochloride given intravenously. Responses to in at 10 and 28 days age were not significantly different. Foals became sedate markedly ataxic, four six recumbent. Heart rate decreased but no arrhythmias detected. Arterial blood pressure increased initially then fell below pre-injection values. Changes respiratory airflow, upper airway obstruction noise noted initial 20 mins sedation, after which fell, tidal volume increased, minute gradually. gas tensions pH did change during 120 following administration. Control studies showed significant changes. All recovered uneventfully.
