Gastric adenocarcinoma trends in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul (Southern Brazil): what has changed in 25 years?

摘要: CONTEXT: Gastric cancer is the fourth most common malignancy in world. Its incidence varies greatly by geographic region. The highest rate Eastern Asia, mainly Japan and China. In Brazil, gastric third males fifth females. Rio Grande do Sul state, Southern has similar figures. main histological type of adenocarcinoma. OBJECTIVE: To assess trends this over 25 years a reference center central Sul. METHODS: We reviewed records upper gastrointestinal endoscopies performed at University Hospital Santa Maria, RS, between 1986 2010. evaluated incidence, age gender distribution, anatomical subsite subtype throughout 25-year period. RESULTS: identified histologically confirmed primary adenocarcinoma 335 (1.6%) 20,521 patients who underwent endoscopy during study mean was 62.4 (± 13.0) years, 67.8% were male (a male: female ratio 2.0:1). Cardia accounted for 14.3% cases, non-cardia 85.7%. According to Lauren's classification, 48.1% intestinal 40.9% diffuse subtype. There no differences or distribution location also difference proportions subtypes location. Over period, there change tumors, but significant decrease steady increase (P = 0.02). subset 39 (11.6%) presented < 45 more likely be have tumors than total series patients. CONCLUSIONS: age, cardia adenocarcinomas from Brazil. malignancy. under old, frequent women, predominated.
